A travelogue of scribbling in the margins

Norma Jean

A pencil sketch of the band Norma Jean. I have never heard a note but found this promo image that I had intended to parody, because this band looks like a bunch of poser goobs, with various members taking on the appearance of truck stop transients, emo kiddie drips, and dumb jocks.

But I couldn't get past this pencil treatment.

Hopefully they do not sound as laughable as they pose.

Spare stuff

I often take so-called finished works and have multiple unused iterations and even take slices out to try other treatments, as is the case here. What started as a simple drawing done with a Cretacolor pencil, and became this mixed media item, I slimmed down into what is at your left and processed it some more through Inkscape and Photoshop.

Just for the exercise.

Rekonstruction 04.20.06

A six pack of nasty characters that I dug up recently. I decided that these guys need to be rendered into at least ink, and preferably into full color.

We'll see what happens.

At full size, you should be able to read the inane notation.

Tony Fitzpatrick

TF recently came to my attention as the guy responsible for the artwork on the guitar used on the cover of Vernon Reid's just released Other True Self album.

Check out Mr. Fitzpatrick's work here.

Kain X

Just an experiment with coloring in big patches of flat color. There were issues getting this right, not the least of which is trying to use the pentool on an IBM Thinkpad finger controller while on a moving train.

But hey, I'm a trooper.

This is Michael Jennings, aka KainX, author/maintainer of various Open Source packages like ETerm and the cAos distribution.

He also recently tied the knot (congratulations).

Rekonstruction 04.12.06

A mob character from the Rekonstruction game that the CEO liked, the VP of Marketing didn't, and I thought had a lot of potential.

Developed from a comic idea I had predating Rekonstruction by at least 5 years, it never got further than this.

Ms. Halliday

Loosely rendered with Tombo Markers, of Curve cospirator Toni Halliday.

Clobberfishy

I named it a clobberfish, but really, it is just another strange entity from my fertile, if not altogether unhinged imagination.
